Salt to Be Nominated as UNESCO World Heritage Site

The session will be held between July 5-12, in the Polish city of Kraków, Petra said.

A local team of specialised experts has been formed to follow up on the process in coordination with the Department of Antiquities (DoA) and Salt Greater Municipality.

The ministry has also formed a team of experts to follow up on Salt’s nomination and another team of historians from the University of Jordan  to draft the historical aspect of the nomination file.

Jordan already counts five places listed as world heritage sites, which are Petra, Um Arassas, Wadi Rum, the Baptism Site (Bethany) and Qusseir Amrah.

Fourteen other sites are currently on the nomination list.

The session’s agenda will also include discussions related to Petra and Um Arassas, Annab said.
