Amman - The president of the Jordanian Astronomical Society, Ammar Al-Sakkaji, predicted that Jordanians will witness a "stunning astronomical scene" this week, as Venus reaches its peak brightness. It will be visible to the naked eye in the dawn sky toward the eastern horizon before sunrise.
Al-Sakkaji stated that Venus, also known as the "Morning and Evening Star," will reach its maximum brightness on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 1:00 PM Jordan time. He explained that the best opportunity to observe it will be on Monday morning, April 28, between 3:58 AM and 5:53 AM.
He added that Venus will be the brightest celestial object after the Sun and the Moon at this time, with an apparent magnitude of -4.8. The planet will be clearly visible without the need for observation tools, with an elongation from the Sun of about 39 degrees.
Al-Sakkaji clarified that this exceptional brightness is due to Venus being nearly between the Earth and the Sun in its orbit, appearing in its crescent phase, known as the "Venus crescent." He noted that this phenomenon will not occur with such brilliance again until November 2026.
